Roots Writers meets monthly throughout the year at the Emily Fowler Public Library, 502 Oakland Street, in Denton. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Roots Writers is a Denton County Genealogical Society Special Interest Group (SIG) which evolved out of a Denton Public Library family history writing course. Roots Writers began meeting in the summer of 2025.

Roots Writers members are passionate about preserving their family history stories, and are actively writing or otherwise documenting their family history in creative projects such as documenting heirlooms, publishing blog posts, writing articles for family and genealogical journals, and more. Roots Writers members actively support one another, providing resources and encouragement. Beginning in Fall 2026, Roots Writers will solicit submissions for the Ancestor Question of the Month, a regular feature in DCGS News, the society’s newsletter.
